Match 1
17/3/2007 - Heswall JFC 3 AC Hoylake Meteors 1
The Meteors took on the newest team to the league - the undefeated - Heswall JFC who were riding high following their 10-0 win the week before. Before this match Heswall had not conceded any goals and willno doubt be moved up a division or two in the closed season. In blustery conditions at Heswall, the Meteors gave an excellent account of themselves despite being under a great deal of pressure from the start. The Heswall manager showed good sportsmanship in allowing us to field a slightly older goalkeeper and Luke Gallagher from the Comets.
Following a period of sustained pressure Heswall went ahead in spite ofthe best efforts of our valiant defenders Patrick Delaney and Tyler Morris. They made it 2-0 shortly afterwards having the benefit ofkicking downhill and downwind! In the second quarter they extended there lead to 3-0.
The second half saw the fighting spirit of the Meteors who held there shape well and tried for every ball in difficult circumstances. Charlie Gilroy & Tom Norman gave determined perfromances getting in some good hard tackles to break up Heswalls often free flowing football. Although relatively quiet in the first half Jack Milne and Luke Gallagher had a better time of it after the break. All of the hard work eventually paid of when a poor clearance was met by Luke Gallagher who struck his first time time shot hard and low just inside the left hand post.
Final Score: Heswall 3 Comets 1.
