Under 8's Meteors Match Reports

25/11/2006 - AC Hoylake Meteors 1  Neston Nomads 0

Team : J.Ainsworth, M.Nelson, L.Sherry, D.Milne, J.Shennan, J.Nugent, A.Young, J.Cavanagh, Jake, Liam

The predatory instincts of Hoylake's leading goalscorer Alex Young kept the Meteors title ambitions burning brightly at Carr Farm today. Young struck with only a few minutes remaining of what was one of the "games of the season" - against a strong Nomads side determined to complete a winning "double" over Hoylake for this season.

This thoroughly entertaining game began at a blistering pace as both sides had early chances to take the lead - with Young going closest for Hoylake after forcing the impressive Neston keeper into a point blank save. The good work for Hoylake was continued as Jonathon Cavanagh constantly proved a thorn in Neston's side with his mesmeric dribbling. In addition the strength of Daniel Milne and the tireless work ethic of Jake ensured Hoylake pressed hard for the opener.

Neston played their part also in this wonderful advert for Under 8's football - and so Hoylake keeper Jack Ainsworth and his defence needed to stay alert against a lively Neston attack.

However, after a barrage of quality corners from the sweet left foot of Michael Nelson - the Neston defence finally succumbed to the intense pressure - and it was left to Alex Young to wrap the game up by lashing home his 10th goal in 9 games to keep the Meteors flying high at the top of the league.
