A gritty and determined performance by Hoylake against a physically strong Newton side saw the boys record their third successive victory with a 5-2 win.
It was a changed line up with a number of players off sick so manager Paul played 4-4-2 with Liam making his debut on the left of the midfield 4.
Hoylake took a minute to get into gear as Neston pressed forward but after breaking up an opposition move Hoylake scored with their first attack with Sean completing a neat finish from a fine Sam Hollywood cross from the right. 0-1 to Hoylake.
On five minutes Hoylake grabbed a second after good work from Sam Braid found Liam on the right side of the box. The Hoylake striker drove the ball across the goal where Sean was there again sliding in to score his second. 0-2 to Hoylake!
Unfortunately some sloppy play from a Hoylake goal kick let the home side back in with Oliver only able to parry a cross from the left to a Neston striker who finished with ease. Neston 1:2 Hoylake.
Hoylake earned a free kick from the edge of the area on 12 minutes but Sean’s direct shot went safely into the Neston keeper’s hands.
Hoylake soon restored their two goal lead when a superb break from Nathan allowed Sean to created some space and Liam scored at the near post 3-1. Oli completed a fine save to keep the advantage when he blocked a first time shot from close range but Hoylake were now in control of the play with sound defending from Ben, Dan and Callum and with Tom linking up well with Liam down the left. Sean was a constant threat with his usual mobility up front and Hoylake went close to adding to their score when Sean and then Sam H fired shots just wide of the target. With three minutes to go to half time Hoylake virtually wrapped up the points when Sean completed his second successive hat-trick with a fine shot. Half-time Neston 1 Hoylake 4.
In the second half the lack of any substitutes and minor injuries to Liam, Sam and Dale meant Hoylake were on the back foot but the resolute defensive line held firm. On 44 minutes Ben completed a superb block from a fierce long range shot. The Hoylake defender took a blow to the mouth in the process and after some attention continued to play his usual fine game. Oli saved a long shot from distance as Neston continued to press and Hoylake eventually conceded on 56 minutes when a fine shot gave Oli no chance. This seemed to spur Hoylake on and after Sam Hollywood had struck the post with a shot Sam Braid took the ball forward and drove the ball in from distance off the far post. Final score: Neston 2 Hoylake 5. That’s three successive wins as Hoylake climb their way up the table!
