Match 1

Under 7’s Comets away at Higher Bebington Celtic
Sat 13th September
Result Win 5-3

Much against the run of play, the Comets found themselves 2-3 down after ¾ of the match, both Comets goals coming from Jake Davies.
However, their domination of possession final reaped its reward in the last quarter as they scored 3 un-answered goals (Tom Akehurst 2, Maddison Barber 1) to take a hard fought victory 5-3. The pick of the goals was Tom’s first which followed good work from Maddison Barber and Jordan Chwalko to set Jake Davies free on the wing who crossed for Tom to finish superbly.
This was a very encouraging 1st game for the Comets with good performances from all the boys. As well as the goal scorers, Austin Dolby (defence), Jack Roberts (attack), Harry Watt (goal-keeper/defender) and Elliot Mackie (sub for the injured Austin) all played well, and for his excellent tackling and passing Jordan Chwalko was awarded Man-of-the-Match.

Match 2

Under 7’s Comets Home to FC Blades
Sat 20th September
Result Win 3-0

This promised to be a tough much for the Comets, with FC Blades having won their opening match convincingly. The opening quarter was hard fought with both teams coming close to scoring, but in the 2nd and 3rd quarters the Comets started to dominated and scored 3 unanswered goals. The first followed a corner from Jake Davies, which was clinically finished by Jack Roberts, the second was from Austin Dalby who followed up well after Jack had hit the post and the third was a great shot from a tight angle by Tom Akehurst.  Tom and Jack had further chances to score but missed narrowly and Jake also hit the woodwork.  The final quarter then saw the boys simply hang on to possession for an excellent 3-0 victory.
Ethan Smith and Sean Parry, both playing their first match, were superb in midfield; Jordan Chwalko was like a rock playing as defensive sweeper and made some bone crushing tackles. However, in Harry Watt we undoubtedly have a natural goalkeeper and yet again he showed his talent with one absolutely brilliant fingertip save. Harry also possesses the rare talent at this age of being able to kick the ball out of hand the best part of half a pitch which is a priceless asset in relieving pressure and was duly awarded Man-of-the-Match.

Under 7’s Comets Away to Victoria Colts Hurricanes
Sun 28th September
Result Lost 1-5

A very hard match for the Comets against a very well organised Victoria Colts team. The boys started well and managed to take the lead with a well taken goal from Maddi Barber. However, in such a hard fought game the fact that the Comets were down to a squad of the bare 7 didn’t help and the Colts slowly started to get the upper hand. By the end of play they had scored 5 goals without reply. The boys never stopped trying and in truth missed a few sitters and gave away a few soft goals and the score line of 1-5 didn’t do the boys justice. Jack and Tom had chances which on another day they would have slotted home and Jordan, Austin and Harry tried their best at the back. Jake ran up and down the wing all day and for this was awarded Man-of-the-Match.

Under 7’s Comets Home to Neston Nomads
Sat 4th October
Result Won 4-0

After the disappointment of suffering their first loss last week, this was a good morale boosting win for the Comets. They were in control of the game from the start and managed to score a goal in all 4 quarters. Being 2-0 up at the half way point and in such control of the game, the Comets had the luxury of changing things around a little, playing Harry outfield (with Jake and Maddi having a turn in goals) and letting Jordan play upfront towards the end as he was left mainly redundant in defence! The highlight of the game was a superb hat trick from Tom Akehurst that included the goal of the game thanks to some excellent work and a great cross from Jack Roberts. Ethan scored the remaining goal, again excellently finished following a cross from Jake. When it game to his turn in goal Maddi made some fine saves as the Nomads created a few chances late in the game. Austin, Jordan and Harry all played well, though in truth had little to do at the back and Sean, Ethan, Maddi, Jake and Jack all played some lovely football going forward along with the hat trick boy and obvious Man of the Match Tom.

Under 7’s Comets away to West Kirby Wasps Black
Sat 18th October
Result Won 3-2

Team:
Harry Watt, Jordan Chwalko, Maddison Barber, Jake Davies, Sean Parry, Ethan Smith, Jack Roberts, Tom Akehurst.

A tough match was always in store away to WK Wasps, and the match remained goal-less after the first quarter. In the second period the boys started to take control and their pressure finally told when Ethan scored with a good finish after several minutes of constant attack. This was extended to 2-0 in the 3rd quarter with an excellent goal from Tom after Jake had dispossessed his opponent and broke down the wing and put Tom through who finished superbly. At this point the boys were in total control with Harry solid but mainly untested in goals, Jordan his usual rock in defence and Maddi, Jake, Ethan and Sean all making breaks forward supplying Jack and Tom with plenty of ball. Into the 4th quarter and with the game seemingly won, the boys appeared to loose concentration and shape and WK deservedly got a goal back. Despite having had most of the game the boys now found themselves defending a 1 goal lead and under pressure from a WK team growing in confidence by the minute and after a terrible mix up at the back WK equalised! However, showing great character, the boys picked themselves up and almost directly from the kick-off the boys poured forward, Maddi took the ball and powered through the defence into the box and scored the winner with seconds to go and picked the Man of the Match award to boot.
A great game and a great finish!

Under 7’s Comets Home to Future Stars
Sat 25th October
Result Won 6-0

Team:
Harry Watt, Jordan Chwalko, Maddison Barber, Jake Davies, Sean Parry, Ethan Smith, Jack Roberts, Austin Dalby, Theo Day, Harry Brown.

Results for both teams so far this season suggested the Comets would be favourites to win this match and so it proved. In a good spirited match the boys dominated from the start and scored in all 4 quarters. Ethan and Maddi got the ball roll and our early supremacy allowed multiple changes in the line up throughout the game. Both Harry’s, Maddi and Jake all took a turn in goals and with all 10 boys getting at least 2 ½ quarters on the pitch it was tribute to the boys they adapted well to the constantly changing line up and kept the score board moving. Jack and Jake made it 4-0 by the end of the 3rd Q and Ethan and Maddi then got their second goals in the final period. Future Stars never stopped trying but every time they pressurised Jordan and the boys in defence were always up to the task. All the lads played well and hopefully we can reproduce this form against WK Panthers next week, a team that will undoubtedly prove to be tougher opponents.

Toughest game yet for the boys. Unfortunately they found themselves 2-0 down early on and from then on there was no way back. Hard though they tried, this was simply an off day for the team and each quarter so at least one lack of concentration which was punished. In fairness WKP are a very well organised team with a couple of extremely good players and on the day they were well worth the final score line of 6-0. However, fair though the score line was on the day, I don’t think it represents a true reflection of the ability of the 2 teams and I am extremely hopefully the Comets will give them a much better game when they meet again at Meols in Dec.

Result Won 2-0

Team:

I nice return to winning ways! An early goal from Maddi set us on the road to victory in a game that the boys never looked like losing. As has become the norm any attack from the visitors was soon snuffed out by Jordan and it was a credited to the Heygarth keeper that the score remained 1-0 with Heygarth still in the match until the 3rd quarter. Finally the boys get the match winning second from a cross by Austin which was cruelly deflected into his own net by one the Heygarth defenders. A good game played in good spirit and with only his second start for the Comets Josh was awarded the Man of the Match

A really hard fought 1-0 victory on an energy sapping pitch played against a hard tackling team. Tom A got the vital goal in the first quarter and to be fair it could well have been more. The Blades keeper had an excellent game keeping out shots from Tom, Maddi and Ethan and with Jake hitting the bar and presumably the post (as the ref gave a goal kick when all around thought the keeper saved it), the boys could easily have won by more. Harry W, Jake, Maddi and Ethan all had a quarter in goals and all did well. As I said, the Blades were a hard tackling team and as the game went on, so the more missed timed some the tackles became. However, as the game became more physical the boys showed they could give as good as they took and few bone crunching tackles from Harry, Jordan and one in particular from Austin showed we were a side not to be messed with. This was a good away victory and epitomised the phrase “winning ugly”! Harry W was awarded MoM for a good solid display both in and out of goals.

Under 7’s Comets Home to Heygarth
Sat 7th March
Result Won 2-1

Hoylake should have won the match by more goals and the result suggests a close match, however for most of the game we were on top and with better finishing in front of goal the result could have been more comformtable. The pitch had been freshly cut in the morning and was fast running. Hoylake went up 1-0 in the first quarter with a well worked goal, a cross from Tom was resoundingly met by Maddison at the far post. Hoylake were then on top for the next two quarter's and should have scored, with Tom, Jake and Maddison all going close. In the third quarter Harry saved well twice and showed his potential in goal with excellent positional awareness. The tackles were hard and fair and Jack played well in defence deputising for the sidelined Jordan, he was supported by Austin and Ethan and the goal was well protected.
At the start of the 4th quarter Heygarth scored from a breakaway and had a 3 on 1 to score, despite Maddison closing them down well. Sean battled hard in midfield and his pass to Jake won Hoylake a corner in the last minute, the corner was taken by Jake and the cross found its way to Tom who finished with clinical expertise.
MoM went to Tom for his excellent work up front.
