History – 2009 a new beginning.Whilst on a business trip to Italy one of the coaches got talking to one of his german colleagues about kids football over lunch and after a short discussion and a couple of glasses of wine in the evening a plan was made to organize a trip to Germany in the summer 2009. The plan came to fruition and through the organizational skill of the U13 coaches , the cheapness of EasyJet and the sheer audacity of riding our good fortune we somehow managed to get to Germany. We were put up in the local school and given the run of the place (can we imagine that happening here!). Our first evening was spent in the local “Bier Keller” where our designated dad looked after the brood with games and sweets while the rest of us tried the local offering. The morning came and brought us the unpleasant realisation of the consequences of the night before, and with the lingering waft BO (beer odour) and certain other, shall we just call them smells hanging heavy in the gym hall, we finally roused for breakfast and boy oh boy what a delight. Then we were in action in a tournament, run by a local village team we were treated like the prodigal son and were fêted by all and sundry , our style of football was dazzling with the boys feeling the true sense of the occasion, and in no small way, relishing it. We were Brazil of the 60s , Liverpool of the 80s , AC Milan of the 90s rolled into one. Blistering pace combined with consummate skill, verve and guile, ying and yang. We had a truly magnificent time and quite were sorry for it to end. This year – 2011 were coming back. We are going back this year, FC Denzlingen came to us last year, two age groups are going this time to foster a long term committal between the two clubs , we see it as a way to improve the club in a fashion which in not just a traditional playing way but to give a broader , whole life experience with opportunities to see and do things which are not just the norm. Fifty parents and children are leaving on a Cass coach to travel to Denzlingen , taking a ferry from dover and driving through France, Belgium and Germany for approximately 16 hours. We have a busy schedule arranged , with planned visits to the historic city of Friburg and with a number of football matches organised the children will certainly be entertained. We the coaches however will be forced to attend the end of season party at FC Denzlingen which just happens to be on the Saturday we are there. I am going to keep a record of the journey and post some comments/pics on facebook and the website. Pico.
