A sterner test lay ahead
Following last week's walkover it was difficult to stop the lads thinking every game was going to go our way and we impressed upon them that in this weeks opponents were a sterner test lay ahead.
Only 1 change in the starting 11 since last time out however the team looked a little nervy all around the pitch. We were matching Allport and the game was flowing end to end, with both teams being wasteful in front of goal, although we were restricted to long range shots for the majority of the first half. Allport took the lead midway through the first half and at 1-0 we didn't look comfortable and we soon found ourselves 2-0 down following a low driven shot into the box which was probably on target but unfortunately took a wicked deflection to wrong foot the keeper and in it went.
A couple of substitutions followed but it stayed 2-0 at the break. We started the second half in a much better fashion and following some decent attacks we were soon rewarded with a goal scored by Dominic Francom on his debut. We continued to press and Allport kept us at bay until Hodgey scored a beauty of a goal to bring us level. All credit to Allport they kept on battling and it looked like it was heading for a draw although it was a tense final 10 minutes which could have seen either team take the points however it was Hoylake's determination that saw us through and snatch a well fought goal to take the points the keeper finding a fizzing shot to hard to hold onto with Connor Francom on hand to stab the ball home and make it 3-2 to Hoylake and a perfect start to the new season.
Great performances all round again with a well disciplined back 4 keeping their heads after going 2 down which definitely wouldn't have happened in previous seasons!!
Man of the match Dominic Francom
Allport let themselves down after the final whistle and we hope never to see a repeat of such behaviour over the coming season.
