First game of the season and what a start!

1.0 Match Summary 16th September 2017 (River Juniors 2, Hoylake Meteors 8)
What a welcome return to form for the Meteors after the lesson(s) learned against Greasby. River Juniors almost needed Hoylake’s own lifeboat to save them sinking further sinking after the 8 Meteor sized goals at the River’s. A credit to our coaches for adjusting their training to suit.
River Juniors should be commended on their disciplined approach during both the warm-up and matches. Plus, they never appeared to feel defeated and battled back with two goals in the last two matches.
A fresh, sunny morning and freshly mown pitch welcomed the arrival of a very eager Hoylake Meteors team at the home of River Juniors where there were multiple matches being played on this large field with well-marked pitches in a friendly and lively atmosphere.
Well done to both teams and many thanks for the organisers.
2.0 Match 1 Score 0-1(Luca 5min).
An early run by Meteor’s Luca and Philip at the River’s was immediately returned with Rivers own tidal wave of Flick & Leo back into Meteors defence. Any attempt by Rivers to encroach in the Meteors goal area was solidly defended by the tidal defences of Nathaniel & Daniel plus an excellent clearance by Seb.
Meteors firmly in control and mostly in the Rivers own half with approximately 5 chances and a Luca special 5 minutes into the game.
3.0 Match 2, Score 0-3 (Luke 2min, Luca 5min, Jake 6min)
Rivers sprinted out of their side (like Miami vice speedboats out of the harbour) to try and quell the heat of the Meteors, this was met with return force of Luke and Seb in defence and a great clearance from Nathaniel. But hold on tight, this was the epic for Meteors, within 2 minutes new signing Luke came scorching from his defence position to fire into the Rivers net with unbelievable velocity. Do not look away (or adjust your tv sets); another Luca special from an obscene angle volleyed into the Rivers goal after 4 minutes quickly followed by fast feet Jake skilfully dribbling around the Rivers defence in a frenzied blur to again burst the Rivers banks. Once again Luke found the back of the net but it was unfortunately at the end of the match and not counted.
4.0 Match 3, Score 1(No5 7min) - 2 (Seb 4min, Luca 6min)
Rivers regrouped and sent a clear message that they would not be pushed around their own playground. Frantic attacks from both sides saw them hovering over the centreline until a spectacular hyperspace rocket from Seb after 4 minutes shook the game up. Rivers came back and held possession in the Meteors half for what seemed like an eternity, but robust defending from Daniel and Philip prevented the Rivers flow. Luca struck back with another special from out wide after 6 minutes. Rivers where not to be fazed and strung some nice “play from the back passes” to get through to their No5 who was lurking deep and scored at 7 minutes. A very unlucky chance from Luca that was well defended by River’s Leo & No4.
5.0 Match 4, Score = 1 (Flick 8min) – 2 (Philip 2min, Jake 4min)
Another early attack from Rivers that was again solidly defended by Daniel and Philip. Philip was told he only had 5 minutes, like the whirlwind that he is (we ensured he had a few Haribo’s) we pulled back the Nerfgun and fired a Philip bullet from his position in defence and within 2 minutes found the back of the Rivers net. Feeling left out, a steady string of passes from Daniel to Luke and finally to fast feet Jake resulted in another goal after 4 minutes. Job done for Philip and on came Luca to try and score but was saved in spectacular style by the Rivers goalkeeper. The Rivers double act of Leo and Flick got the better of the Meteors defence with a devastating goal from Flick at 8 minutes.
