Squad -30 Booth, 4 White, 24 McDaid, 5 Ehlen, 16 Nelson, 15 Brooks, 21 Lane-Smith, 7 Lawrence,

10 Mclean, 19 Scott, 12 Sutton. Subs – 8 Caswell, 14 Smith

Today we welcomed Vicars Cross to a wet Newton Park. The sides had met twice before this season with Hoylake winning 9-1 on both occasions.

Hoylake started the game brightly and soon found themselves 1-0 up, Danny Brooks fed Phil Lawrence down the right and his cross found the unmarked Mike McLean who finished coolly. The second came soon after as McLean found Sutton in space and finished well. Hoylake’s dominance continued, Sutton chased the Vicars Cross defender down and tackled him well and laid the ball off to Mclean who scored his 2nd of the game inside the first 15 minutes.  The 4th came on 20 minutes, McDaid found Sutton with the throw, the forward then feed McLean who make short work in completing his hatrick, 4-0.  Vicars Cross then scored a great free kick after McDaid gave away the foul outside the box, 4-1. Hoylake soon scored there sixth, Brooks picked out Sutton with a great ball over the top the the defence and the forword beet the keeper to the ball to knock it past him and score his second of the game. Vicars Cross pulled another goal back after the forward rounded Booth and finished well, 5-2. Another McDaid throw found Scott in space and his cross found Sutton unmarked at the back post to complete his hatrick inside the first half.

Half time AC Hoylake 6 Vicar Cross 2

Two chances at half time, Caswell on for McDaid and Smith on for Scott. Second half was a tighter game, Vicars cross came out and played some good stuff and had a few chances, but it was Hoylake to score again, after some good work from McLean, the forward laid off Sutton to score his forth and 18th of the season and make it 7-2. The 8th came after Mclean chased down the keeper and beat him to the ball and score from the angle and get his forth of the game and 17th of the season. After some positional changes Lane-Smith got his first goal for Hoylake after Brooks won back possession on the edge of the box and gave the ball to Lane-Smith who finish well and complete the scoring. Chris Ehlen also when close in the final minutes but the defender beat the keeper but not the post.

It was a all round good performance for the lads today, at this stage in the season its important to keep winning and keep the pressures on Beechwood and Princes Villa at the top of the league. Speaking after the game 4 goal hero Sutton said “The lads played very well all over the pitch, the tempo was fast and we went about the game in the right manner, on a personal note, im happy to get four goals today and keep my scoring run going and hopefully continue next week in the big Semi Final vs Beechwood at Arrow Park”.
