Match 1
Sat 10th September 2011 AC Hoylake Asteroids 0 V Glenavon Hawks 4
Played at Leasowe pitch 3 Kick off 11.40am
Hoylake Squad: Baker, Bell, Butterworth, Evans, Heath, McCartney, Murphy, Robinson
Hoylake MOTM: Tomas Murphy
Oppositions MOTM: Joel Robinson
First game of the season and what a fixture, after Hoylake Stars this team are the best in the league and we gave them a good game. After the game the Glenavon manager told us the score line did not reflect the way the game went and how we were very unlucky not to score 4 goals as well. To think last season this team beat us 9-0 with ease - it shows how far we have come as a team.
Some of the football we played was quite brilliant and for a quarter of the game we played with 6 because the excellent Kian took a knock on his sore ankle and had to come off. Joel (who had already played in another match in the morning!) played fabulous I don't know where he gets his energy from was unstoppable. We were awarded a free kick just inside their half and Joel smashed it going for goal and just glanced the bar! Goal of the season if it had gone in and also Tomas had a chance and would have scored if it wasn't for some brilliant defending from Glenavon. We did not deserve to be 2 down at half time.
Second half started with the impressive Louie coming on and we were back to 7 players and he made a great impact down the right wing. We put the solid Mike Baker in defence on his own while we tried to push up to get a goal. Chris and Harry got stuck in to some meaty tackles and Chris was powering through the middle at every opportunity, he got the ball and found Tomas who beat 2 men to smash an unstoppable shot and just how our luck was going on the day it whacked the cross bar and came down just before the line (where is a Russian linesman when you need him)! Tomas and Chris had another chance in the box but Glenavon somehow cleared the goal line scramble. With us pushing up so hard it wasn't surprising that Glenavon would hit us on the break and even with Mike making some great tackles and clearances they got in behind us a couple of times and managed to score 2 late goals. Joel made a fantastic challenge to stop them from scoring on one occasion and today we witnessed some wonderful saves from the best keeper in the league Liam Bell.
I was very impressed by our boys today, their attitude was brilliant and they really are playing like a team, they listened and took in everything we said to them. I am sure in the season ahead we will play some attractive football and get the results we deserve. We have another hard game next week but the way we put ourselves about today we are ready for anyone!

Not much to say about our performance today, we just weren’t at the races. First half we battled well but we did have a few players missing and Greenleas were on fire, everything they hit went in. We did come close a few times but it just wasn't to be our day.
Second half was just like the first, we did have a few chances from a couple of free kicks but the conditions were horrible and the pitch really does need cutting, you can't see the kids’ feet!! But we can't take away Greenleas performance they where excellent today.
We showed great sportsmanship again today from the players who never reacted to some heavy tackles and clapped and shook their opponent’s hands at the end of the game.
I was very frustrated after today’s result especially after last week’s excellent performance, but I believe in these boys and now we have 2 of the best teams out of the way we will keep going and we will get a good run under our belt and get our confidence back

Today was our first win of the season. Just like last season against Hope Farm it was a great match, Hope Farm have improved immensely and it shows how far we have come.
The condition of the pitch is still awful and desperately needs cutting, putting that aside we played brilliant today and every player put in a fantastic shift.
The first half was one way traffic and we had many chances, Liam bell in goal made a few important blocks and once again had a great game, Louie is making the attacking full back role his own and Joel has mastered the box to box role perfectly and was yet again involved in every move. It’s just pure bad luck that Thomas Murphy doesn’t get a hatrick every week, he was excellent today, Chris was exhausted when he came off he was immense a brilliant player. Today was about players who have vastly improved, Kian did nothing wrong and the change in his attitude was great to see, he really did want it and he put in some brilliant tackles. Mike Baker was just superb, his battling and tackling was fantastic and he also threw in some slide tackles which was great to see and he never stopped running. But a special mention has to go to Harry he did everything we asked off him and more he played an absolute blinder.
We went 1-0 up after yet another attack down the right and the ball fell to Chris who took it on his own and smashed it into the net. Straight after the kick off Hope Farm caught us on the hop and scored an excellent equaliser, half time 1-1.
The second half was all Hoylake and we scored a goal that was absolutely brilliant , it started in our own penalty area where Harry won the ball superbly and instead of just running with the ball out of play or into trouble he looked up spotted Joel and gave him the perfect pass, Joel then turned and accelerated down the middle , he too then looked up and saw Thomas in loads of space and also made a perfect pass Thomas calmly took it in his stride and slotted the ball neatly passed the oncoming keeper ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC it was a great goal and that was enough to win the game .
Very pleased with our boys today; a great performance and was the hardest choice yet to pick a man of the match

Today’s game was played on a wet and still desperately in need of a cut surface, the pitch really is awful but this did not deter a fantastic game of football, it really was end to end stuff.
We started the first half really well and it wasn’t long before we scored the opening goal, Louie played the ball down the right and it was picked up by Chris who took his man on and sent in a low cross and the ball fell to Mike who took a touch, composed himself and slotted the ball in the corner; brilliant goal.
We sort of lost our shape after the goal, it was like the team smelt blood and we left a big hole at the back and Manor got themselves an equaliser, we then went down the other end and Mike nearly scored again, their keeper was outstanding all game, he stopped everything we threw at him, at the other end our keeper yet again was in great form and made some brilliant saves. Just before the break Manor got a free kick just outside the area and their player hit an unstoppable shot and they went into half time 2-1 up.
The second half was just like the first, end to end stuff but I felt we were more on top and looked the more dangerous to score, and sure enough with some brilliant work from Harry and Kian we got ourselves a free kick outside the box and such was the quality of the free kick I didn’t even see if anyone got on the end of it! Either way we were back on terms.
At this point it looked like there was going to be only one winner and it wasn’t long before we got our third goal, after more brilliant work from Chris who put in a fantastic shift the ball fell to Louie who volleyed an unstoppable shot; great goal, but our lead didn’t last long and after a little bit of confusion at the back Manor got their equaliser and the game finished 3-3.
The boys attitude was fantastic today and it was hard to pick a man of the match, I could have wrote a paragraph on every player, it really did feel like a win today.
I would just like to add that the way both teams and their coaches and parents conducted themselves today was a fantastic advert for mini soccer, Manor applauded our goals and tackles as we ourselves always do to other teams, the players shook hands after conceding free kicks and at full time too . Both set of parents also applauded both teams and it was lovely to see and be a part of, brilliant sportsmanship, brilliant football and the perfect result.

They say football can be a game of 2 half’s and today it certainly was, it was a windy day and the ground was wet but at last the grass had been cut!!!!!! The first half we started well and even went 1-0 up when Chris’s shot was dropped by their keeper and the ball went passed him, for some reason then it was like our players thought this is going to be easy and we went to pieces, players played out of position and we never tracked back and most of all we stopped passing. Olympic who had a brilliant midfielder seized on this and quickly hit us with 4 goals in 10 minutes, this half seemed to go on forever and I asked the ref how long left and he said “oops sorry I forgot to look at my watch” just then we conceded a silly free kick on the edge of the area and even though we had played 30 minutes the ref allowed the kick and Olympic scored! I couldn’t be more annoyed
I told the boys at half time that we had to keep our shape and if we did we would get the ball up to Tomas a lot more and create more chances, we also had to be vocal telling each other to pass and get into the spaces, the 2nd half started and the boys didn’t let me or themselves down, we kept our shape brilliantly and we dominated the 2nd half and scored a fantastic goal, it started at the back from our keeper (who in the first half kept the score down with some brilliant saves showing brilliant bravery) he gave the ball to Mike who found Harry who then sent Tomas with a perfect through ball and Tomas took this on and beat 2 men and placed a wonderful goal in the corner. Olympic did come back into the game and would have scored except for some great tackling from Chris (who worked his socks off again) and the ever impressive Kian, we did have more chances and on any other day Thomas would have got a hatrick. We were the best team at this point but right at the end Olympic broke away and with some fine passing scored, this was a kick in the teeth because we played so well in the 2nd half.
Today our boys were subjected to some nasty challenges and at one point I thought we would have to replace our goal keeper and one of our boys was stamped on, but our reaction was excellent, there was no retaliation and no crying or sulking our boys got up and played on showing there sportsmanship and excellent attitude, to come back from a terrible 1st half and some bad tackles and produce a 2nd half like that was quite impressive.

Today the weather was a bit windy and a little cold but conditions were good even if the pitch was a bit bumpy, our opponents were all girls today but our boys still took the game very seriously, it gave us a chance to play our brilliant goal keeper out and he played his part doing a very good job in midfield. Even though the boys smelt blood they still kept their shape and played some very good football and their passing was second to none.
Kian was our one defender who had a reasonably quite match but didn’t leave his position once and was always ready in case Oxton broke forward, I have to add the night before in training Kian was fantastic and if he keeps this up he will give me a selection head-ache which is brilliant. We played with 3 up front, Tomas who set a couple of our goals up as well as scoring a fantastic hatrick (and of course he smashed the bar a couple of times again!!!!!) The first half saw Mike who had a brilliant match bag himself a hatrick. On the right we had the superb birthday boy Chris who set a load of goals and got a fabulous double hatrick, one goal was a fantastic diving header!!! Harry, put in a brilliant display today and got himself 4 deserved goals.
Today was an easy victory and the boys could have all just raced up front and try and score for themselves but they never and they set each other up and passed really well and you could see their confidence grow and how they were enjoying themselves.

I expected to see some fireworks today but not on our pitch! Our boys were fantastic today, the conditions were perfect for football and our performance was just brilliant, it was Peninsula Comets first game of the season today and you could tell, they weren’t a bad team they just couldn’t play together, they were all over the place and because we were full of confidence and kept our shape we just picked them off and mesmerized them with our passing and team work.
The first half we played a lot down the right wing and every move and goal went through the brilliant Chris who kept on sending tantalizing crosses into the box, just asking for a connection and the boys especially Tomas obliged (he didn’t hit the bar this week Wahoo) and we went in half time 11-0 up! Our goal keeper hardly touched the ball but when he did he made a brilliant save then commanded his area and found one of our boys in space. For his reward we let him play out in the second half and Louie after getting his goal in the first half put himself up for goal keeper for the 2nd half showing me he’s a great sportsman and captain.
Second half we let the boys off the leash a little which led to Peninsula Comets breaking away and scoring a consolation goal so we got back into shape and once again started bombarding their goal, Kian was everywhere moving more forward than his usual defensive duties and Harry who can’t stop scoring at the moment got a superb brace and did very well in the midfield role we gave him, Mike had another fantastic game and is getting better and better every week plus getting on the score sheet again.
The main thing about today was our passing it really was brilliant and if we play like that every week we can take on any one!!!!!!

Hoylake Squad: Baker, Bell, Butterworth, Heath, McCartney, Murphy
Goal: Chris Butterworth

Oppositions MOTM: Michael Baker
It was nice to be back after the last 2 games being called off, the weather was cold and windy and the pitch was terrible, Upton turned up late and the ref could only play 10 minutes each way, which wasn’t great.
We started the game really well and basically camped out in the Upton half, but we just couldn’t get that final ball to the forwards and our passing was none existent, Mike had yet another brilliant game and it was his ball forward that put the excellent Tomas through on goal and he was about to put the ball in the net when Chris took over and it was him who put the ball in to make it 1-0, and that stayed the score until half time.
The second half started the same as the first, we had a lot of the ball but again our passing and team work went out the window and Upton broke away and scored a brilliant equaliser, we threw everything at Upton and Tomas and Harry came so close to getting a winner and the work Chris put in on the right wing was excellent, Kian also put in another good shift in defence, right at the end of the match Upton broke again and I was just waiting for their forward to get the winner and curse our luck when the fantastic Liam Bell pulled off a great save to keep the match at 1-1.
A bit of a learning curve today, we didn’t play our normal football; we need to stick to what we know best PASS and MOVE

Today’s game pitted our 1st & 2nd teams against each other. The game was played in very testing conditions, due to the bitterly cold weather, rain & complete mud-bath of a pitch at the Delph, which made passing very difficult. Baker & Heath made some excellent last ditch tackles to stop the opposition breaking through on goal time after time. Evans & McCartney worked very hard in Midfield, trying to pass their way out of trouble in what proved to be very difficult conditions.

First of all it was really good to be back to playing again, it feels like months since we last played, the conditions were awful; the weather was cold and wet and very windy and the pitch was bumpy and muddy and made it very hard to play football on, then to make matters worse the ref didn’t turn up so we had to use one of the watching coaches (he didn’t do a bad job actually!!!!!!) and we also played one of the best teams in the league
They had two exceptional players, one at the back and one up front, these two players made a massive difference.
The first half we were against the wind and Spartans had most of the play and it was very hard to keep up with them, if it wasn’t for our excellent keeper Liam Bell the half time score could have been a lot worse than the 2-0 that it was.
The second half was a lot different, we came into the game a lot more Mike and Louie had a good game and are forming a brilliant partnership together in midfield, Kian had another solid game in defence while the brilliant Tomas never stopped running and was very unlucky not to score especially his free kick that went just over, Stan showed some good touches in midfield and also went in goal and gave a very good account of himself, Liam Bell came out second half and really got stuck in making some big tackles. The match finished 3-0 but considering we haven’t played for a while and the weather and pitch wasn’t good I thought we were great today and bring on the rest of the season because I feel we can give anyone game.
I haven’t mentioned one player yet because he deserves a special mention this week, Chris Butterworth was a different class today; he didn’t stop he was up and down the wing taking players on, beating them and putting some brilliant crosses in. He also got back and made some fantastic tackles, he did everything we asked him to do and was so unlucky not to score, he truly deserved man of the match and he is a pleasure to coach a wonderful player.

Today’s conditions were awful, it was very cold and the pitch was really bumpy and cut up, and to make matters worse yet again the ref didn’t show up, luckily the Hoylake Stars coach came early and he refereed the match for us (he did a good job actually!!!!!).
We were up against a very good team and in previous meetings with us they have left us behind and gave us a good thumping in fact usually reaching double figures , but not today - our regular goalie was absent due to being ill , so our trusty defender Ben went between the sticks. What a game he had apart from 2 brilliant goals and 3 flukes he stopped everything else Greenleas threw at us. We defended fantastic and Kian was a giant, he cleared everything that came in his path, a brilliant man of the match performance from him.
At half time we were 1-0 down but still very much in the match. In the 2nd half we pushed Mike into midfield with Louie and pushed Stan (who is looking a very good player) more forward with Tomas and Chris on the wings while Joel sat just in front of defence, to be honest I should not have changed our system and style of play until the last quarter I underestimated Greenleas and they quickly hit us on the break and opened us up, we were always chasing the game then. Saying that though we still had some good chances, and we always will have with the brilliant Tomas and Chris in the team, at the end Louie hit what I thought was an unstoppable pile driver only for their keeper to push it out for another corner.
Today’s game gave me a real eye opener, because I feel we are putting a very good squad together and our team is knitting nicely and these kids are really enjoying their football and there sportsmanship is second to none and we are looking very good for next season when the Wallasey league gets a little more interesting.

Hoylake Squad: Baker, Beattie, Black, Butterworth, Evans, Heath, Murphy, Robinson
Scorers: Black, Murphy
Hoylake MOTM: Tomas Murphy
Oppositions MOTM: Stan Black
Today’s playing conditions were shocking, the pitch was awful it was just a mud bath and almost impossible to play on, you could not see any lines and it was difficult to run on because it was so muddy and the weather was horrible . To make matters worse yet again we had no ref!
For most of the game we camped out in the Hope Farm half and it was really hard to pass the ball because of the pitch but the boys didn’t let this stop them and we soon got our deserved goal; it came from a cross off the impressive Tomas and after a bit of a scramble in the area Stan pounced on the loose ball and poked the ball into the corner of the net to make it 1-0.
What happened next was fantastic; everything I tell the boys to do on the pitch they did in this one move that produced the best goal Hoylake Asteroids have ever scored. Joel won the ball and gave a perfect pass to Chris who went on a run down the wing ghosting pass the Hope Farm left back and sending in an inch perfect cross to Tomas who on the volley placed the ball into the corner of the net giving the goal keeper no chance. It was a brilliant team goal and really well taken by Tomas.
In the 2nd half we took our foot off the gas a bit and didn’t play like a team, the passing had stopped and to be honest the ball was getting stuck in the mud a lot. At the end of the game Hope Farm got a consolation goal and it was such a soft goal, one of their lads sent a weak shot towards goal and our keeper was horrified as the ball trickled through his hands and just about crossed the line, we really didn’t deserve that after a brilliant display on a very poor pitch.
Ben had yet another great game but this time not just in goal but out of goal as well and is making a good defensive partnership with Kian who was a rock today and his confidence is there for all to see making some excellent tackles, Mike and Louie had a very solid game in midfield and Joel impressed again with his none stop running helping out in defence and up front , Stan has started to fit in this team nicely, he has incredible energy and always wants to do well, I could put him in any position and he would give his all, and you can see in his face how he is really enjoying his football, same goes for Tomas who just doesn’t stop working hard for the team and deserved his goal and man of the match, that leaves Chris who today apart from his brilliant run and cross for the 2nd goal worked really hard but that final pass was not coming off and you could see the frustration in his face.
I was very proud of our boys today they worked hard in horrible weather and a terrible pitch but do you know what, they loved it and so did I!!!!!!

Today’s performance from the Asteroids was fantastic, the conditions were perfect except again for the pitch; it was awful it is desperately in need for a cut and to be flattened by a roller. Taking this into account we played great football and the boys passed the ball superbly, their confidence was sky high and it wasn’t long before the boys scored the goals which their play deserved.
Chris who had yet again a fantastic game got the 1st goal when he pounced on to a loose ball close to the goal and he coolly headed it in. Stan made it 2 before Mike lashed one in and an easy goal from Tomas gave us a strong 4-1 lead at half-time, NB did get one back before half time but it was a very comfortable first half.
2nd half we swopped keepers with Harry going in and Liam coming out and both had a brilliant game in and out of goal, Liam especially becoming a very good defender. Kian who had another solid game came off and it showed as NB got themselves another goal, so we put him back on and Kian and Liam strengthened our defence. Ben then got himself on the score sheet before a very cool Mike slotted in number 6, by now the boys smelt blood and our shape was gone and they just piled forward attack after attack, how the brilliant Tomas never got a hatrick I don’t know, near the end of the game we did get our 7th goal and it came from Stan completing an impressive brace.
It’s amazing how well a player can play at any level when he is full of confidence and today that showed in all our players even more so Louie who in a new roll excelled and broke down all NB play. A great display by all today.

Today’s weather conditions weren’t the best , the day started off well but by time our game was on it was raining a bit and yet again the pitch was terrible; it still needs cutting and still needs a roller on it to flatten the bumps down.
The first half produced some of the best football I’ve seen at this level by both teams, we started well but Olympic scored 2 fantastic goals in the first 5 minutes, one was a bullet header from a corner, and it really was a brilliant goal. Our lads never let their heads go down and they were also on the end of some bad tackles but they carried on passing and moving and played some great football, only some brilliant goalkeeping and defending by them stopped us from scoring in the first half.
The second half started really well for us, we basically camped out in the Olympic half and we tried our best to get a goal, if it wasn’t for the post (twice) and again some good goalkeeping we wouldn’t have just drawn this game we would have won it! If we had penalties at this level we would have had a stone wall penalty when one of our players was cruelly hacked down in the area as he was about to score, even the Olympic coach agreed it should have been a pen, but rules are rules so we had to settle for a free kick in their area with a wall! Almost impossible to score, it just wasn’t our day!
