Second win on the bounce for the Meteors as all the hard work this season is beginning to pay dividends for us. A shame for Heswall as they played well but every one of the boys worked hard today and showed how well they can play.

The 1st quarter was a slow starter with both teams working hard - Heswall playing against the hill. Callum and Oliver worked the wings well and pushed forward at every opportunity. The Heswall team had some very strong players and Matthew G and Alex F did well to stop their attacks, Joseph W again did well in goal and made some important saves early on. But Will broke the deadlock just before the end of the quarter with an audacious effort from outside teh area that soared into the top corner.

2nd quarter Heswall exploded out of the blocks, bursting through from the kick off and left Sam with little chance in goal. But we didn’t let our confidence be knocked and went straight back at them. Joseph W showed great determination to win the ball and linked up well with Alex MJ in midfield. Soon we regained our lead after a great run from Callum resulted in a well taken goal. Their keeper made some important saves as we continued to build in confidence and kept the pressure on.

3rd quarter and we were really flying. The rain stopped and we kept on pushing forward in numbers. Our new formation is beginning to look useful, with the midfield linking up between defence and attack. We kept attacking in waves. Zacks mazy runs split their defence time and again and paid off with a great solo goal. Then the flood gates opened. Wills corners were looking dangerous all the game and Matthew pounced to make it 4. Then Zack seized his opportunity and ran half the length of the pitch to slide into a defensive mix up and got his brace and our 5th. Sam got onto the score sheet with two well taken goals, one after pouncing on a shot pass from the keeper and driving it home into the bottom corner away from the keeper. The second after a well controlled pass from Frankie, he slotted home with cool aplomb. Frankie nearly got his first of the season - latching onto another penetrating corner from Will but his shot was well saved by the keeper.

4th quarter and we showed great resilience as Heswall tried to get back into the game, working hard to break us down but Callum and Alex MJ at the back protected Oliver in the goal well. Our heads were up and Will got his hat trick, linking up Zack in midfield to fire home from close range.

Credit to Heswall for not giving up and playing to the end and credit to the Meteors for showing respect to the Heswall team. We know what it feels like to concede heavily and won with dignity.
Well played boys, we had an all round great performance today and the football we have been playing for the past few months has promised great things and finally we got the bit of luck we needed. Lets keep this up next week and finish the season on a high.

All credit to Young Lions who gave us a really good game. Thanks to their coaches for some very positive feedback after the game, commending us on our organisation and discipline and said we were one of the best teams they have played in this league so far.

We have started to get into gear from the kick off in games now and we gave as good as we got, matching them in defence. We tried four at the back today which allowed Frankie and Joseph PF to get forward up the wings on the break. Matthew and Alex F are disciplined enough to stay back at the right times and this meant we could attempt to dominate the midfield. Alex MJ controlled the centre of the park and showed a great first touch on numerous occasions. Joseph W had a good stint in goal and kept an important clean sheet.

2nd quarter and Sam Mealor took over in goal, making some important saves and using his big kicks to great effect. We started to find areas in the danger zone in front of their goal more and more and Oliver and Alex MJ both had opportunities to score, just denied by a fine display by the Young Lions keeper. Our defence are starting to use the space behind midfield well, just try not to get dragged towards the ball too often lads.

3rd quarter and we were caught on the break but up until that point we were giving as good as we got from a very talented Young Lions side. Matthew almost snatched an equaliser after some great work down the right side from Callum and Oliver. Oliver drove in a low cross which passed across the goal mouth and Matthew just put it wide of the back post.

4th quarter was difficult as Young Lions pushed for more and Alex F took over in goal and bravely stopped a number of attacks, getting his hands to the ball well. Callum, Sam and Alex MJ kept on pushing and Matthew is starting to have the confidence to get forward at the right times.

A fantastic display that showed just how far we have come this season. The defence are very tight and are starting to get forward when the opportunity arises meaning we have more bodies forward when we attack. The midfield and attack are playing some lovely football, lots of triangles and we are closer and closer to recording our first victory I’m sure

Well played boys, keep our heads held high and take the positives from a really good game of football.

Willaston are another team that are new to the league and we gave them a really good game.

Our overall team performance today was excellent and we kept them at bay until the 4th quarter where they caught us on the break.

Until that point we had the lions share of possession, and were very unlucky not to score 3 or 4 in what was a great match for the players and spectators alike. We are really starting to sow an awareness of space on the pitch and finding some lovely passing and movement that was lacking in our game at the start of the season.

The boys are maturing into a well disciplined side who just need a little bit of luck to start scoring. Three men of the match this time but as ever the whole team deserve praise for their performance.

(Apologies for the short match report this week lads)

Couldnt decide this week so 3 MOM – JPF, CT and AMJ!
